Today was exciting as I watched the inauguration of Obama the 44th president of the US with my class in edu 309. What a terrific way to start a social studies methods course! I was stoked to have such a speech on citizenship to begin a new president and a new semester. Yay! very inspiring.
It got me wondering:
what is the plan for Obama for education.
I found one item of utmost interest to me, while not elem but on early child care...
as our toddler approached 2 and it is very challenging to afford any sort of decent daycare, i am happy to see that he has :
"The Obama-Biden comprehensive "Zero to Five" plan will provide critical support to young children and their parents. And they will help states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school." http://www.barackobama.com/issues/education/
how cool would that be if we had universal preschool? I don't think that young children need to be in school learning all that early in life, but the unfortunate reality of having to work and raisde a child creates an issue. And it would be great if people could keep their jobs and know their child is well cared for.
I hope that this happens. And while I might not feel it, I will be happy for future young families.
